LAWRENCE, Kan. -

Texas A&M scored eight runs in the top of the first inning en route to a 13-6 Big 12 baseball triumph over Kansas Friday night at Hoglund Ballpark.

The 20th-ranked Aggies improve to 19-6 overall and 4-3 in the Big 12, while Kansas falls to 18-10 and 1-3 in conference play.

KU dug itself a hole right off the bat and could not recover. The Aggies sent 12 men to the plate in the top of the first, scoring eight runs on seven hits.

However, after the first inning, the Jayhawks actually outscored the visitors, 6-5. Senior John Allman led the offense, going 3-for-5 with a pair of RBIs, while junior Nick Faunce, sophomore Robby Price and freshman Tony Thompson each had two hits.

Texas A&M's Darby Brown led the Aggies' offense going 5-for-5 with a run scored on five RBIs.

After the Aggies' initial scoring outburst, senior right-handed pitcher Andres Esquibel was called out of the bullpen and help Texas A&M's bats fairly quiet for 4 2/3 innings. The 6-foot-2 righty scattered three hits and allowed just one run in relief.

The Jayhawks will look to bounce back in the second game of the series, set for 2 p.m. Saturday at Hoglund Ballpark.
