Kansas Football Team Enjoys Fun In The Sun Saturday

MIAMI, Fla. - Fun in the sun followed a two-hour practice for the Kansas football team Saturday as the Jayhawks are in Miami, Fla. for FedEx Orange Bowl preparation.  The game against Virginia Tech will take place on Jan. 3.

 

The Jayhawks completed their second workout of the week here in South Florida Saturday morning before taking part in a beach party at the Trump International Sunesta Beach Resort.

 

The players ate, rode wave runners, played sand volleyball, rapped to a DJ and played in the Atlantic Ocean for several hours in the afternoon.

 

Defensive coordinator Bill Young and selected defensive players will take part in a press conference Sunday morning before the team returns to the practice field in the early afternoon.  After the practice, selected players will take part in a hospital visit before having the rest of the night off.

 

Monday's schedule will include a press conference featuring offensive coordinator Ed Warinner and selected offensive players before an afternoon practice.  The players then have free time in the afternoon.

 

Orange Bowl Notable - While the temperatures this week in Miami are in the 80s, a cold front is expected to move in Jan. 2 with a high of 59 degrees in the forecast.  Temperature on game day is expected to have a high of 64 and a low of 60.  Here is a look at temperatures at kickoff time for Kansas games this year:

 

Sept. 1 vs. Central Michigan - 89 degrees

Sept. 8 vs. Southeastern Louisiana - 84 degrees

Sept. 15 vs. Toledo - 56 degrees

Sept. 22 vs. Florida International - 83 degrees

Oct. 6 at Kansas State - 79 degrees

Oct. 13 vs. Baylor - 62 degrees

Oct. 20 at Colorado - 75 degrees

Oct. 27 at Texas A&M - 74 degrees

Nov. 3 vs. Nebraska - 47 degrees

Nov. 10 at Oklahoma State - 68 degrees  

Nov. 17 vs. Iowa State - 66 degrees
